1. Written Activity #1: Your Past & Future Via Anthropology
This assignment is the first of a series of activities called “Public Anthropology” that we will do this semester.  It is inspired by Margaret Mead’s engagement with wider publics – not just other anthropologists.  The world, it seems, could benefit from a more anthropological perspective.  What is anthropology, what kinds of questions or issues does it raise for you, and how are the skills applicable?  What is the “Big Question” that interests you?  This is what we are ultimately getting to.

Objective: To think about and synthesize your anthropological learning these past years, and to articulate to nonspecialist audiences the complexities of bringing an anthropological approach to a human problem.
Outcome: Discussing the ethics, benefits, and pitfalls of bringing an anthropological approach to wider publics.

First, read the following articles assigned:
a. Ingold (2018) Actions  Anthropology for the Future;
b. Purcell (2000) Actions  Public Anthropology-An Idea Searching for a Reality
c. Omohoro (1998) Actions  Career Advice.

In one post of appx. 500+ words, answer the following questions (note 500 words is 1 page, single spaced in Word):
1). How would you articulate what anthropology as a discipline COULD be to other anthropologists?  That is, how would you use the readings to argue for making anthropology MORE RELEVANT and UNDERSTANDABLE?
2). What are the benefits of bringing anthropological perspectives and methods outside of the academy?  Discuss three specific points
3). You should use (and cite) the authors’ points and perspectives to substantiate your own point.  When you cite and reference materials, use an in-text citation format (Author Year), and include a BIBLIOGRAPHY!

The standard Activities Rubric will be used to grade this exercise:
1. Anthropological Perspectives (4) Exhibits awareness and understanding of ethnocentrism, cultural relativity, contexts, and power in all activities;
2.Course Concepts (4) Directly and appropriately utilizes course terminology in all writing and activities;
3. Examples (4) Describes and utilizes appropriate examples from course materials (readings, films, individual fieldwork, media sources);
4. Follows Instructions (4)  Is this a compare/contrast discussion?  Did you find outside sources if required?  Were you supposed to upload an image?  Follow the directions!!  And put in some effort;
5. Writing, Style, Organization (4)  Writing is always important.  So are citations and a bibliography.  The writing can be indicative of your effort (see #4 above).

After reading Chapters 1 and 2, take some time to think about your experiences working on a team or group activity.

1 – Provide an example of a successful team or group* in which you have been or are currently involved.

2 – According to Levi (Chapter 1, p. 7), what type of group/team was it:  production, service, management, project, action/performing, or parallel?

3 – What was the purpose of this team/group? What was your role in the group?

4 – Tell us ‘why’ you believe the team was successful and link your comments directly to the text Chapters 1 and 2, including references to your readings by citing page numbers as it relates to your example. (NOTE:  If you are using an eBook, while it does not have page numbers, you still need to cite the text.  You can do so by using the following format:  “Levi, eBook, Section…”.)

Using evidence based practice Write a 500-750 word description on the topic Supporting breastfeeding to promote healthy infants. Include the following:

The problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project that will be the focus of the change proposal.
The setting or context in which the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project can be observed.
A description (providing a high level of detail) regarding the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.
Effect of the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.
Significance of the topic and its implications for nursing practice.
A proposed solution to the identified project topic with an explanation of how it will affect nursing practice.
You are required to cite to a minimum of eight peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice. Plan your time accordingly to complete this assignment.

Type your paper on a computer and print it out on standard, white 8.5 x 11-inch paper.
Double-space the text of your paper and use a legible font (e.g. Times New Roman). Whatever font you choose, MLA recommends that the regular and italics type styles contrast enough that they are each distinct from one another. The font size should be 12 pt.
Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks (unless otherwise prompted by your instructor).
Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.
Indent the first line of each paragraph one half-inch from the left margin. MLA recommends that you use the Tab key as opposed to pushing the space bar five times.
Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor may ask that you omit the number on your first page. Always follow your instructor’s guidelines.)
Use italics throughout your essay to indicate the titles of longer works and, only when absolutely necessary, provide emphasis.
If you have any endnotes, include them on a separate page before your Works Cited page. Entitle the section Notes (centered, unformatted).You will not have endnotes.

perform a reflective analysis on an artifact in your life. Much as Julius encounters various artifacts (books, paintings, music, psychiatric theory, etc) and they inspire deeper thought and analysis, introduce the object and then tell its story.

I want the artifact to be an actual object (so, unlike Julius, this will not be a story that you hear, but rather an actual thing). I can be personal (a meaningful photograph) or public (a dedicated park, for example), but it should trigger some cascade of thought and reflection.

In the essay, first introduce and describe the artifact. What does it look (or sound, or taste) like? How carefully and minutely can you explain it – so that I, as the reader, have an image of it in my mind?

Then, move outwards. How does it make you feel? What associations or memories does it inspire? Then: what public importance does it hold? What does it mean to other people (those you know, or those you don’t)? What is the historical significance of this artifact?

By telling the story of the artifact, what larger stories and meanings are illuminated?

This paper should be written in the first person

Please read this and write a two-hundred-word summary.

I’ve listed some questions relating to Arendt’s thinking that you could answer to help as a guide as you work:

What is public space? How does it relate to freedom?

What is agency? What are the its three criteria? How does it relate to public spaces?

The individual and public space: how does one appear in public space?

Do you feel that Arendt’s thinking is relevant to our present condition? Can it relate to our practice as designers?

What are some examples of public spaces in Lincoln?

You can gain background knowledge by looking through the Wikipedia page on Arendt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannah_Arendt

Having read about various disciplinary methods and written a literature review accounting for relevant secondary sources, reflect upon and respond to the following:

What disciplines have you identified as most relevant to your research question?
What methods are typically valued or emphasized in these disciplines?
Are any of these methods relevant or useful to your research project? Explain.
Do you have any training or familiarity with the methods you see as relevant to your work? Explain.
What method(s) are you most likely to employ for this project?
Remember: you should consider the timeframe for our course, access to sources, and familiarity with quantitative and qualitative strategies
What steps do you need to take to ensure you can collect the data/evidence necessary for your project?
What is your timeline for data/evidence collection? (keep in mind that you should start analyzing your primary data during week 5).
There is no word requirement for this post. Be sure to answer all of the questions thoughtfully and thoroughly.

As this well-known HRSA report on healthcare workforce analysis predicted, several states and specialties will experience a shortfall of trained medical workers. Recent confirmations of such shortfalls have been reported by https://is.gd/qTzpe0 and https://is.gd/NgdNgv.  Although shortfalls of trained medical workers are not uncommon, they become concerning when linked to the highly concentrated geographical distribution of healthcare providers (as discussed at https://is.gd/DLAzY5).  The pairing of concentration in services and shortfalls may leave large geographical areas devoid of needed medical services.  Therefore, it should not be a surprise that current research focuses on such shortfalls and potential remedies.

Goal.  Your goal is to create a 5-7 page APA-formatted illustrative essay showing the potential effects of shortfalls of trained medical workers and potential/proposed remedies.

PLEASE FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION PRECISELY!!! Strive to illustrate the shortfall as a problem and then summarize two or three proposed actions hoping to alleviate shortfalls.

Remember, https://courses.lumenlearning.com/suny-information-lit-user-guide/?p=63 and Module 5 at http://tinyurl.com/yyzjvj9k may help with planning and drafting your essay.

These links are NOT personal links they are on the internet and opened to the public.
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS GIVEN IN THE INSTRUCITONS.

Choose one source from the articles on your topic and provide an example of paraphrasing, quoting, and summarizing with appropriate APA formatting. Make sure you label each section and include the original source for the paraphrase and quote (See the sample here). Make sure to include proper signal phrases as shown in Week 4’s instructional materials.

Please make sure that you adhere to the example document that I attached.
