Cultural competence in an organization is having the skills and knowledge to work respectfully and effectively with people who differ from you in their abilities, ethnicity, gender and/or sexual orientation, nationality, race, religion, and/or socio-economic background.

Although workplaces are becoming more diverse, people are not necessarily becoming more culturally competent. Challenges remain related to understanding and respecting those whom we perceive as different, or at the very least, with whom we are not familiar. Human Resources can, and should, play a key role in fostering cultural competence throughout the organization to improve employee skills and knowledge in building positive relationships, decreasing institutional bias, and fostering global business opportunities.

For your assignment this week, consider the following scenario: It has been announced that your company will begin expanding into new markets in the upcoming year. In preparation for this expansion you have been learning much more about cultural competence and its value to the organization. You anticipate that human resources will be confronted with many situations and questions related to cultural competence and the companys expansion as it opens offices in a variety of countries around the world.

To complete this Assignment, within a 2- to 3-page paper, create a set of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) that you could share with employees in your company to provide information and insights on the following topics:

Describe cultural competence and its value to an organization.
Describe the characteristics of a culturally competent organization.
Explain why its vital for individuals within the organization to internalize cultural competence for the sake of the organization and for themselves.
Explain the role human resources plays in fostering cultural competence, including examples.
Your Assignment must include 3 references to support your thinking.

Assignment 1: Project Topic Proposa

Due: Sunday of Week 3 by 11:59 p.m. ET

Imagine that you are asked by a high school student to explain how sociology would account for a current social problem (bullying, gun violence, same sex marriage, depression, etc.) The purpose of this assignment is to select and describe a social problem for your final project and start looking for sources: Within 4-6 pages you will include the following in your proposal (introduction for your project). Please include at least 4 journal articles no more than three years old.

Background – include and identify at least one of the major social theories (one to two pages)

The purpose of this assignment (research proposal), is to provoke the interest of the reader. It is also to convince the reader the importance and relevance of the topic. In the opening paragraphs, you want to make sure you introduce the reader to the particular question(s) your thesis is seeking to answer. What are you trying to discover or undercover? The introduction is not merely a summary of points to be elaborated on in later sections. Rather, your objective here is to inform the reader of the question(s), why it is important, and how your thesis will provide an answer.

Background: It may be necessary to provide the reader with some measure of background information relevant to the topic. This is particularly useful when your work is interdisciplinary, in which case it is even more likely that the reader will benefit from a section that contextualizes the question and supplies the history (30-50 years) and terminology so that the reader will be better able to follow the pages. Write it as if the reader is not familiar with the topic or issue. This leads you into the review of literature and research. 1-2 pages

Statement of the Problem, why it is important to study, and the Purpose of the study. (at least 2.5 pages)

What is the social problem? Why should we a society study this problem? What is the purpose of this study/research paper?

Research Questions Here you are answering “What are you trying to discover or uncover.” (3-5 questions).

e.g., does where a person lives have an impact on their health outcomes?

Creditable Sources.

You want to be sure and include at least four peer-reviewed journal articles no more than three years old. NOTE that the peer reviewed article should have been published in a sociological peer reviewed journal.

This unit discusses Kohlbergs Theory of Moral Development and the Heinz Dilemma scenario helps classify an individuals stage of moral development.  How would you respond if faced with this dilemma? Based on your response to the Heinz Dilemma, available below, what stage of moral development would Kohlberg say you are in? Why? How might your response to this dilemma have changed if you were in a different stage of moral development?
The Heinz Dilemma
A woman was on her deathbed. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to produce. He paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman’s husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $1,000 which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said: No, I discovered the drug and I’m going to make money from it. So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man’s laboratory to steal the drug for his wife. Should Heinz have broken into the laboratory to steal the drug for his wife? Why or why not?

The topic I choose was Is healthcare a right or a privilege? I chose this topic because with millions of people affected by the coronavirus, initially it was very difficult for citizens to receive testing and the proper healthcare that was needed. With the repeal of the Obama care it left millions of Americas fending for themselves causing the virus to spread. This effected most brown/black and lower income families.

Question: People have different opinions on who should provide services in America. Who do you think should primarily provide?

While my IV will be focused on class.

We have learned that attachment occurs due to safety needs, but what if these needs were not met? In this discussion, you will consider attachment styles and potential outcomes when conditions are not ideal for attachment, as well as the interaction between attachment styles and temperament.
Please read the following case study:
Kandi is an 11-year-old girl who has lived in Centervale with a foster family, the Jacksons, for one month. She has been in foster care most of her life, having been removed from her biological parents care at the age of 10 months. Kandis parents were addicted to drugs and alcohol and Kandi spent most of her infancy in her crib or playpen, alone in her room. It is likely that Kandi was exposed to drugs and alcohol in utero. It is unknown whether, in addition to neglect, she was abused sexually or physically. These are possibilities given her parents addictions and presence of multiple adults in her house at any given time.Since Kandis arrival, her foster parents have noted several behaviors that seem odd. Despite her sweet personality, Kandi loses her temper easily. She hugs people indiscriminately, while at the same time pushing others away. At times, Kandi avoids her foster mother or seems unconcerned with her not being in the room. At other times, she becomes very distraught and cries frantically when her foster mother goes to the laundry room. She has a difficult time interacting socially with the other children at Centervale Elementary and has only a few friends. At the same time, she clings to her teacher, constantly hugging her, and even trying to kiss her. Although she has been provided with toys, books, and games, Kandi collects odd things such as used staples or the rubber pieces left over from pencils.
Based on your analysis of the case study provided, respond to the following in your main post:
Describe how Kandis behavior could be reflective of disruptions in her progressing through the attachment phases proposed by Bowlby.
Classify Kandis attachment style according to Ainsworth’s attachment theory.  Explain why you chose this attachment style.
Given her early isolation and multiple caregivers, what are some important social development stages or aspects that Kandi may have missed? Discuss concepts such as imitation, social reciprocity, and exploration.
How might Kandis experience affect her development according to Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development?

This assignment is a culmination of the previous assignments you have completed during this course. In this assignment, you will synthesize your previous research as well as conduct research on the final element in the Code, Element 9. Element 9 states that a test user, “evaluate(s) the available evidence on the performance of test takers of diverse subgroups . . . determine(s) to the extent feasible which performance differences may have been caused by factors unrelated to the skills being assessed.” Together, the previous course assignments and this current one involving Element 9 will provide you with the data, research, and literature reviews across all nine elements of the Code to assist your decision-making process about the appropriate selection of a test.

For this final assignment:

Locate reviews or research related to how Element 9 applies to your selected test. If the research or reviews do not address this element in any way, then you will need to cite the references you reviewed and note that they were lacking in in addressing this element, drawing appropriate conclusions for when a test is lacking such evidence.
Synthesize all of the data and information you gathered on your selected test throughout the course and identify highlights, both positive and negative, both advantages and disadvantages, according to all nine elements of the Code. See the link in the resources about the Meaning of Synthesis.
Evaluate your selected test based on these data and draw a conclusion about whether it is a test that you would select, recommend, or even defend, if necessary in practice. Note: You should not merely copy and paste your earlier assignments for the final paper. Instead you will be synthesizing the research you completed for each element into a summary of that element that you will offer in support of your final evaluation. (For example, note that the technical quality element (that is, Element 5) will be only a synthesis and evaluation and not a repeat of the annotated bibliography you completed in Unit 5.)
Identify the strengths or weaknesses for each element, and determine if the information about that element supports (or opposes) the use of your selected test in the field and population to be served.
Incorporate recommendations about ways to improve the selected test.
Review all of your evaluations for each element and recommended improvements to the test, and write an overall evaluation and determination about the use of your selected test. Would you recommend this test to a school district or business that you are employed as a consultant? Would you be able to defend the use of this test in a court proceeding?

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

References: A minimum of nine references. These may include journal articles, literature reviews, MMY reviews, and publisher websites. At least five of the nine references must be from professional journals. It is likely and appropriate that many of these references and citations were included in one or more of your previous assignments. Alternatively, you may want to supplement your paper with current, peer-viewed journal articles you located after completing an earlier assignment. Those inclusions would also be acceptable.
Length of paper: At least six pages (not including title page, abstract, or references).

Using at least two academic sources, write a paper on a boss or supervisor (i.e., leader) for whom you worked. You should keep the persons name confidential by making up a fictitious name. Describe the leaders style as well as the effects of the leaders style on the employees. Then, decide whether the style was a result of some trait of the leader or something within the situation (e.g., the ecological setting), and support the decision. What would be your vision as to ideal work conditions?  What benefits would be helpful: health, childcare, vacation?  What about flex hours? Telecommuting? Teamwork?  Encouragement to experiment?
