Scenario
You have been hired by your regional real estate company to determine if your regions housing prices and housing square footage are significantly different from those of the national market. The regional sales director has three questions that they want to see addressed in the report:

Are housing prices in your regional market higher than the national market average?
Is the square footage for homes in your region different than the average square footage for homes in the national market?
For your region, what is the range of values for the 95% confidence interval of square footage for homes in your market?
You are given a real estate data set that has houses listed for every county in the United States. In addition, you have been given national statistics and graphs that show the national averages for housing prices and square footage. Your job is to analyze the data, complete the statistical analyses, and provide a report to the regional sales director. You will do so by completing the Project Two Template located in the What to Submit area below.

By learning more about the complex interactions that contribute to problems or issues in society, you can better understand your role in creating positive social change. For this assignment, you will explore and research a complex social problem using your sociological imagination.
To prepare for this Final Essay:
Consider the ways that social institutions contribute to the formation of societys values. For example, how is the social institution that you selected portrayed in the media? What current problems or issues is the institution facing?
Create a list of the possible social problems that you could explore in your final essay. You might want to do some brainstorming on the topic by listing the institution and the number of ways that it contributes to the transmission of societys values. Describe both your selected institution and the social problem that you would like to address.
Use the feedback that you received on your Rough Draft Essay Worksheet to inform your construction of this Final Essay.
Feedback: Great job providing an overview of key Sociological perspectives (Conflict Theory, Functionalism and Symbolic Interactionism). Good work identifying Economics as a social institution. To strengthen future writing assignments, please balance out paragraph lengths for more even coverage of key issues. Also for future essays, please note that each in-text citation must have a corresponding source in the Reference list.
The Assignment:
Compose a 3- to 5-page essay in which you:
Describe the theoretical perspective (functionalist, conflict, or interactionist) to which you relate the most and why.
Briefly describe how the social institution (e.g., family, religion, education, or government) you selected in the Rough Draft Essay Worksheet Assignment and briefly describe how this social institution contributes to the transmission of societys values.
Identify and state a problem or issue related to that social institution, and use at least one theoretical perspective to describe the social problem.
Conduct research to learn more about the problem. Use the information that you find to create evidence to explore the social institution and social problem in the context of a changing society.
Describe at least one recommendation that you would make to the social institution to encourage positive social change. How could the social problem be better addressed?
Refer to at least two specific examples from the Interactive Units or Required Resources. Be sure to use evidence to support your claims by citing your source. An example of an acceptable citation: According to the Culture Module of Interactive Unit 2. Please include an APA Style cover page and reference page (these do not count toward the length requirement).

A summary of the holistic intervention you recommend be implemented in the hospital to combat general noise pollution. It should address the following:
Briefly describe the intervention. Be sure to support your recommendation using at least three evidence-based research articles.
Provide a statement of how this intervention could be incorporated into a patients therapeutic care plan.
Describe how this intervention would reduce general noise pollution in the hospital.
Describe how you would evaluate this intervention over time.

Assessment of the problem, challenges, and outcomes associated with hospital noise pollution. Include the following:
A description of general noise pollution in the hospital setting.
At least two sources of noise pollution in the hospital setting.

Civic Engagement and Public Participation

“We are bound by ideals that teach us what it means to be citizens. Every child must be taught these ideals. Every citizen must uphold them…. I ask you to be citizens. Citizens, not spectators. Citizens, not subjects. Responsible citizens building communities of service and a nation of character.”
–George W. Bush

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, civic engagement is the process of working collaboratively with and through groups of people affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest, or similar situations to address issues affecting the well-being of those people. It is a powerful vehicle for bringing about environmental and behavioral changes that will improve the health of the community and its members. It often involves partnerships and coalitions that help mobilize resources and influence systems, change relationships among partners, and serve as catalysts for changing policies, programs, and practices (CDC, 1997, p. 9).

The National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation asserts that there are seven core principles for civic engagement:

Planning and preparation
Inclusion and demographic diversity
Collaboration and shared purpose
Openness and learning
Transparency and trust
Impact and action
Sustained engagement and participatory culture
Source: (Atlee, 2009)

An example of successful, community engagement was the formation of the Jefferson County Historical Society (now known as the Evergreen, Mountain Area Historical Society). In 1973, concerned residents of Evergreen, Colorado, realized that even though their town was rapidly expanding due to interstate highway access, they were losing touch with the past. As a result, a group of citizens organized the non-profit, historical society; and then the historical society petitioned the county to purchase a historical dwelling that was home to one of the town’s founders. Renamed the Hiwan Museum and managed by both the county and the historical society, residents can tour the facility and learn about Colorados pioneering days. In addition, the Evergreen Mountain Area Historical Society continues to protect, preserve, and promote the history of Jefferson County (EMAHS, 2019).

Yet, organizing civic engagement is not always easy. There are obstacles which have to be overcome, which is why persistence and passion for change are needed.

Directions: Using the required, academic readings, and supplemental academic research, please address the following while adhering to the Discussion Board Rubric:

Why is civic responsibility important?
What are the barriers to civic engagement?
How can citizens overcome these barriers?
Has the Internet and social media helped or hindered civic engagement?

Steps of a Functional Behavioral Assessment

Conducting an FBA allows you to determine the purpose or function of a specific behavior for a particular person. You can then use that information to design intervention strategies to decrease that behavior. For this discussion, complete the following:

Explain how each step of an FBA is conducted and how each of these steps helps the behavior analyst come to a conclusion on the function of the behavior.
Identify the step you would choose to conduct in the FBA, if you had to choose just one step. Explain why.
