Make contact with a local or regional leader in sustainability or within an environmental organization.  Conduct a detailed interview with that person to find out about their organizations central goals, the interviewees personal perspective on sustainability, and other related topics.  We will spend time as a class brainstorming to select interviewees and to create suitable interview questions. You will need to structure your interview in memo formatnot as a Q&A.  Consequently, it will be important for you to take careful notes during your interview and to look for themes and topics that might translate into paragraph format. The interview memo will be 2-3 pages long and is due on June 5th.

Note: you may wish to combine this interview with your local place research, though you are not required to do so.

Epidemiologists are concerned with population growth as it relates to potential healthcare issues. Why do rates and measures of population change use the total mid-year population instead of the end-of-year population? What makes one measurement more effective than the other? Choose a real or a hypothetical example to explain how using the end-of-year population affects data collection and outcomes.

Compose an essay addressing the topics above. You must format your paper in accordance with APA guidelines. It should be 34 pages in length and include support from the required readings, and at least one outside source. Use the WCU Library to find scholarly sources that support your paper

A new CFO at Hanson Technologies is tasked with the responsibility of analyzing costs in an effort to reduce them in preparation for expansion into the global markets. Much of the cost cutting so far has been from finding lower cost suppliers for much of the materials, reducing machine maintenance schedules, and hiring contract labor to reduce benefits to longer term employees. The CFO has now been looking for additional cost cutting strategies and has identified warranty expense as one of the costs that needs to be cut. He is considering two proposals to do so. The first is to cut out warranties on their product altogether to reduce the warranty expense to zero. The other is to cut the estimated warranty liability percentage down to 25% of its current value. Discuss whether either of these options will work for this purpose. What are your thoughts on which, if either, option should be enacted? What would you do if you were the CFO in this case?
