You must find a news article that addresses a contemporary public administration issue and submit it to me via Canvas, along with a short essay of no more than one page double-spaced, discussing the central issue of the article (a working link to your article inserted into your essay is also acceptable). You must outline/explain the central issue the article raises, and articulate a position on the issue. The source of the article must be a credible news source such as a local news station, national news agency or newspaper publications. While political and opinion websites are increasingly relied on as news sources, please stick to traditional news sources such as the Pensacola News Journal, Tampa Bay Times, Miami Herald or nationally recognized news publications such as USA Today, Washington Post etc. Local news channel web articles can also be used. Remember that the article must be a news article and not an opinion piece or editorial. Opinion pieces or editorials will not receive credit.

Read the attached to this week 5 (FILES)  “B. Franklin.PDF” file/article as well as the chapter 2 on Ben Franklin in Revolutionary Characters by G. Wood (required book), and respond to the following questions:

Discussion Forum Topic: Was or wasnt Ben Franklin loyal to the English Crown and rule? Give examples? Provide evidence-based examples and analysis from Woods publication.

The format for the forum: The main post: a three to five-paragraphed narrative introducing your idea or reaction, backed with evidence, and a conclusion. A paragraph is understood to be composed of 5-8 sentences with proper citations, references, and style/grammar. The main post is always due on Thursday. The secondary post(s): a free-flowing discussion engaging others’ comments, with no length requirement yet academic in nature. Evidence-based material only. If you select to introduce evidence – MLA formatting for citations and bibliography is a must. No speculations and don’t forget to cite (in text and at the end of your post). You may start a discussion link through this forum. The secondary post (s) is (are) due by Sunday night, and maybe be posted anytime during the assigned week. They are usually brief and respond or comment to peers in class.

You may choose to write in MLA, APA or Chicago for all our writing assignments in this class (discussions and essays). MLA is the most common and known to students. If you don’t know other writing styles and formats – just stick to MLA.

For this week’s forum, respond to one of the following questions:

1. One of Robinson’s major themes is the failure of the individual.  His characters are sunk in doubt and disbelief.  Their most frequently experienced emotion is despair, and most of them are beyond hope, with little understanding of their own conditions.  Using “Richard Cory” and “Miniver Cheevey” as your proof texts, discuss what the poet wants the reader to discover about himself or herself.

2. Explore Amy Lowell’s imagery in “September, 1918.” How does the line, “Some day there will be no war” (line 9) reshape our view of the images that come before and after?

3. Explore Pound’s use of metaphor in his three poems to achieve the literary aims of Imagism.

4. Frost believed with Emerson that “natural facts are signs of spiritual facts” or, at least, that the human heart has a deep desire to read nature as the symbol of spirit. How does nature symbolism shape the speaker’s and the reader’s view of the spiritual in Frost’s “Mending Wall” and/or “The Wood-Pile”?

5. Discuss the theme of appearance versus reality as it is evident in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.”

A movie review on The Twilight Zone: The Obsolete Man including a summary, analysis and evaluation. Questions to consider answering in the essay: What is the significance of the title? What sort of government is depicted and what are its principles? Who is the chancellor and what are his roles and beliefs? What bible verses are quoted and how are they significant? How does this society view faith or religious beliefs? Ironically the chancellor is obsolete, what does the author of this episodes seem to be saying?

I have provided the link below to the video.

Attachment early in life is a critical part of having healthy relationships throughout the lifespan. So, review the following two links, and read and/or skim over the research related to Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), which is just one resource of many for exploring attachment history with our clients.

http://www.psychology.sunysb.edu/attachment/measures/content/aai_interview.pdf

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/285731843_Ten_clinical_uses_of_the_Adult_Attachment_Interview

QUESTIONS:please review that questions contained within the AAI and consider what your answers would be if you were participating in the interview as the subject, not the interviewer.

What insights does the AAI give you about your early relationships with your primary caregivers?  How does this information frame aspects of your current relationships in respect to both strengths and challenges?  How does being exposed to the information in Chapter 4 of Broderick & Blewitt along with the AAI change your perspective on not only your relationships, but relationships you see around you?

For this week’s forum, respond to one of the following questions:

1. Chopin’s stories not only raise the question of a woman’s right to be an individual and to reject the demands of family and motherhood, but they also raise the question of how the liberated woman should use her liberty.  Discuss the female protagonists of “The Story of an Hour” and “The Storm” as women who are capable of achieving a degree of independence.

2. Is it essential to an understanding of the “The Yellow Wall-paper” to know that Gilman experienced a mental breakdown similar to that experienced by the heroine of the story (see “Why I Wrote ‘The Yellow Wall-paper'” pg. 523), that Gilman was a strong advocate of women’s rights, and that she was an outspoken critic of the relationships between women and the men who dominated them? How does your knowledge or lack of knowledge of these facts change your understanding of the story?

3. Booker T. Washington published Up From Slavery in 1901.  In it, Washington argued for a “forgive and forget” attitude toward slavery.  He believed that slavery could be put in the past, and he encouraged African Americans to move forward.  In what ways is Du Bois’s work radically different?

4. Analyze Dunbar’s representation of African American life in the poetry we read. In particular, consider the tactics he utilizes in attempting to undermine the stereotypes that his characterizations appear on the surface to endorse. How successful are these tactics? Possibly examine the role of religion, irony, violence, and/or racism to back your argument.
