SPEAKER REACTION PAPER
John S, a person living in recovery from Alcohol Use Disorder for 27 years, will be zooming in to one of the classes. Write a 2-3 page reaction paper to Johns message. The reaction paper should include the following:
An introduction to Johns overall message about substance use disorder and recovery
A brief summary of Johns story, including main points he made, examples he used, and lessons he learned.
Your personal reaction to Johns message, whether positive or negative, and how his story affects your knowledge or beliefs about substance use disorder and recovery.
A discussion of how Johns message is relevant to the class. You should include comments about both mental illness and addiction in your discussion.
Include at least two references (you may use one of the textbooks as one reference) to support your comments
The paper must be written in APA format.
Project Overview
Project data: Students will be expected to use Excel and XLSTAT to analyze the data. It involves all major airline domestic flights departing from Oregon airports in June of 2020.
Project Idea: We try to use all the statistical tools discussed in this class to analyze this dataset. The purpose of any statistics class is to better understand the world through data. Although we have many tools, all of them come back to one question: How can we better understand our data? In order to really understand these tools, we will repeatedly ask the question, What patterns can we find in this Oregon flight data?
Project Procedure: For each project, you will be asked to use a different tool or approach on this same data and prepare a report. By the end of the course, you will have used every tool we have to better understand this data.
Instructions
Download the data from Canvas.
Use XLSTAT and Excel to analyze the data.
Answer the questions listed below.
Do not include the original dataset in your report. Your answers should be in complete sentences. Insert necessary tables or graphs to support your arguments and comments in the report. Do not attach a bunch of computer printouts.
The plagiarism checker is turned on. Be sure to submit your own report.
Check the rubric for the number of points each question is worth.
Open your data (in Excel) and answer the following questions in the provided template: BA 275 Project 1 template.docxPreview the document
What is this data all about?
How many rows and columns are there? What does each row represent? What can you tell about the data from the column headers?
Last year in the month of June, there were 6755 flights that had departed Oregon airports. How does that compare to this year? Does that surprise you, or not so much?
Is this data quantitative, qualitative, or both? Why?
Use Excels =average() and =stdev.p() to say something about one of the columns. Summarize in a clear English sentence something this column tells us.
Try sampling from one of the quantitative variables in the flight data using XLSTAT. Report your sample of size 50 at the end of the project.
Now that we’re starting to have a good time, let’s dabble with a bit of plotting/graphing! Use XLSTAT to create a histogram of your random sample. Be sure to update the horizontal axis and title of the graph rather than using the abbreviated variable name.
Use XLSTAT to create a boxplot of your random sample. As before, update the horizontal axis and title of the graph rather than using the abbreviated variable name.
How would you describe the shape of your graph? Some adjectives you might include would be: symmetric, skewed, unimodal, bimodal, uniform, bell-shaped, etc.
Did your random sample include any outliers? Explain.
10 annotated references for the topic of the idea of free will explained in radical behaviorism terms the product is a Microsoft Word document that contains:
a. title page;
b. Annotated reference page a minimum of 10 relevant references typed in APA style, and
c. include annotation directly below each reference that briefly (about three to five sentences) summarizes the article and describes its relevance to your topical paper.
Intercultural Communication Criticism Assignment:
In this assignment we will move beyond identification and description to analysis and evaluation in which you will analyze and critique an artifact related to an intercultural conflict. You must find your own artifact and this artifact must have been created within the last year. Your analysis of the artifact must use course concepts to make claims addressing how the message uses communication as power in the service of one side of the conflict.
Cultural criticism goes beyond merely describing what we see to making critical evaluations of what we see. By this, we mean that we want you to make a strong critical argument that is supported by evidence. Evidence will include data from the content of the artifact and the authority of the course content, including the video series titled, Doing Intercultural Communication Criticism. So don’t just tell us that someone is being unfair, discriminatory, etc., but show us how this is happening by defining and discussing a concept and then applying that concept to a specific example from the scenario.
Here is an example of a passage from good paragraph using a concept from the strategic analysis segment in this weeks video series related to the past ASTATE Helmet Sticker controversy.
In order to defend the use of the helmet stickers, the author characterizes one of the opponents as that Jewish, Lawyer, who probably has no connection to ASTATE sports. Playing to the prejudices of his supposed blue-collar, Christian, male audience, he is able to shift the argument to the character of the messenger, instead of the merits of his argument, and the supposed cultural differences between the local public and those expressing concerns about the stickers. (The analysis could then go on to discuss issues such as ethnocentrism, ideology, hegemony, etc. from the textbook and lectures to help you make critical claims about the artifact and the intentions/actions of the author)
I expect a strong analysis would require at least five double-spaced pages.
This is for a discussion post
Identify and explain the impact of three pregnancy complications that can affect the development of infants between the ages of 0 to 2 years.
Discuss how the attachment style of an infant affects how they interact with others in their environment.
Identify and discuss one temperament dimension described in the text that is related to infants and possible strengths of this style.
INSTRUCTIONS FROM PROFESSOR
The purpose of reviewing information in this chapter is to gain a basic understanding of pregnancy issues, risks, hazards and interventions that can be offered to help promote good health for the mother to be and the infant. In addition, you will also gain information about newborn and infant development from a biopsychosocial perspective. You will learn about the growth and development milestones of infancy, early cognitive processing, emotional regulation, temperament, attachment styles for those ages 0 to 2 years.
Chapter 3: Pregnancy, Birth, and the Newborn
Chapter 4: Infancy
1-Sexually transmitted diseases are more prevalent among older adults than most people realize. How might this be related to societal attitudes toward sexuality in later life?
2. A 79-year-old bisexual woman recently moved into an assisted living facility after her partner died. Discuss some issues she might face related to her social and sexual needs, and how you might help people in her situation.
3. List at least three common misconceptions or stereotypes about how older adults express their sexuality, then elaborate on the more nuanced reality surrounding those misconceptions.
4. Visit the Sexuality in Later Life page of the National Institute on Aging website (https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/sexuality-later-life) to learn about sexual problems related to illness, disability, medicine, and surgery. Select four issues that may affect older adults ability to have and enjoy sex and describe ways they may be able to manage or overcome them.
1. select your best lesson plan ever created
2. use the attached document to assess your lesson plan and highlight evidence of each element that is in the lesson plan. (Rubric for Culturally Responsive… see attachment)
3. If your lesson plan is missing elements listed in the Rubric for Culturally Responsive… and rewrite your lesson plan to include the missing elements.
Finally,
Reflection Response: answer the following questions:
What would it be like to be on the receiving end of this lesson if you were a student in your class of the initial lesson plan?
What would it be like to be on the receiving end of this lesson if you were a student in your class of the revised lesson plan?
Objective: to compare a popular media health report to the peer-reviewed publication the report is based on. This project is easier to do if it is a treatment study.
General guidelines: Each student will choose a health story that was published in 2015 or later. The story can be in any popular media newspaper, magazine, television, radio, on-line. But, you must be able to turn in a copy of or link to the media article. The other requirement is that you must be able to obtain the original peer-reviewed publication that they reference in the media article to use in your analysis and to turn in. Many media reports are based on conference presentations those will not work for this project. You would probably be well-served by making sure you meet both of these requirements and then ask me to approve the story. There is a grid attached below for this assignment that you can use to make sure you cover essential criteria for comparing these two pieces of information.
Headlines Presentation Guidelines: You will prepare a Powerpoint presentation focused on how the media report compares to the scientific study it is based on. Basically you will take the criteria and report on it. The presentation should be at least 10 slides and MUST be a voiced-over presentation. So you will present your slides with audio (you talking).
Grading: the presentation will be graded on a 100 point scale. I will be looking for a coherent presentation; appropriate formatting, spelling, grammar; and a thoughtful analysis of the criteria.
Make sure to cover how well the headline covered the following:
Novelty of Treatment – Accurate information on novelty (or lack thereof)
Availability of Treatment – Accurate information on availability of treatment in U.S. If the story projects possible future availability, it justifies the projected time frame and describes the basis and reliability of the source making that projection.
Treatment Options – Mentions appropriate alternatives and provides advantages/disadvantages of the new idea compared with existing approaches. Explains how the new treatment (or test) fits into the realm of existing approaches.
Disease Mongering – No obvious elements of disease-mongering
Quality of Evidence – Where relevant, there is mention of strength of
evidence and correct interpretation, demonstrating a grasp of the hierarchy of evidence. (e.g., a story about a nonrandomized cohort or observational study should explain that researchers were not able to adjust for all factors that might explain an observed difference.)
Quantifying Treatment Benefits – Estimate in both absolute and relative frames, or absolute frame only, or rates with & without treatment
Treatment Harms – Balanced information about harms (frequency or seriousness)
Treatment Costs – Mentions comparative costs and comments on cost-effectiveness.
Sources of Information – Provides detail on information sources and their potential conflict of interest, and reports independent source, or mentions unsuccessful attempt to obtain corroboration

Academic Research Proposal
Before starting serious research, you need to complete an academic research proposal, which is an important part of any investigation. It clearly states the purposes of your research and the ways that you intend to find the answers. The proposal for your final research report introduces the topic or question you will be researching, lists topics for investigation, provides some preliminary methodology, and provides a work schedule for the various activities that will be involved in completing the project. The goal here is for your proposal to be approved; therefore, you want to be as specific and clear as possible about the approach you will be taking to this final writing project.
Your research proposal is a brief description of the research plan that you will be conducted later. The purpose of this paper is to explain why you have chosen this particular issue and what techniques will be used to research it. Your paper should cover the following sections in bold:
1. Introduction/Problem: A relatively short description with of the topic/question/problem to be examined
people above 80-years old in leadership positions in Fortune 100 companies
why are there so people above 80-year in the United States that are CEOs of fortune 100 organizations?
2. Clear statement of the research question
Very clearly state what you will be studying. Be sure that this is understandable to someone who doesnt know much about your field of study
o What are the current numbers of people above 80-year CEOs at Fortune 100 companies compared with the numbers younger CEOs that in the past 10 years
o what are some explanations from management theorist to explain these differences in numbers of people above 80-year vs younger CEOs in the United States?
o Justification of the research of this particular issue; (Why is this important to look at? What will we understand from examining this issue?)
3. Description of your research plans:
Topics for Investigation-what you will examine versus what you wont be looking at (an example would be: I will be examining Fortune 100 Companies in the United States versus those in Europe and Asia.)
Preliminary Methodology and Potential Resources
o (this section should provide an explanation about how you plan to approach your research and where you will likely find answers to your questions.
4.Timeline-briefly provide a schedule for accomplishing the major sections of your research and due dates of Bibliography etc.
