1) Most people think in categories of this life and the life to come. In the Gospel of John, Jesus says,Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life (John 5:24) .  How does this claim impact how you think about this life and the life to come?

2)  In the fourth Gospel Jesus is both the Lamb of God (John 1:29) and the Good Shepherd (John 10:11).  Which metaphor for Jesus do you like better and why?

3) Some people feel the Book of Revelation is disturbing and dangerous. Others find it attractive and appealing. (Be sure to note the global perspective at this point.) How would you account for these differing views?

How do you view the Book of Revelation, especially if it is read as a series of cycles/spirals?

4)  In my introductory video I made connections between three parts or thirds in John and the Jewish festival/calendar year. Here I made a connection with the Old-Testament related themes like God’s giving life through water, the Spirit’s help in the wilderness, and Jesus being with his temple/household/family. Offer examples! Avoid generalities and abstractions.
By the end of the essay, the reader should have a clear understanding of the subject and the focus.
Write using a third-person point of view.
Give the essay a title that is specific and interesting.
The introduction must introduce the reader to the speaker of the talk, the title of the talk, and the subject of the talk.
The thesis must name the speaker, the talk, and reveal your analysis.
The introduction should begin with description or action. Avoid statements like the following: “I’m going to tell you about” OR “In this essay”
The conclusion should wrap-up the subject.
Concentrate on solid paragraph structure. Each paragraph should have a main point (topic sentence) and supporting evidence.
Organize the essay so that ideas flow from one paragraph to the next; use transitions.
Avoid run-on sentences and fragments.
Avoid tense shifts; be consistent.
Proofread the essay and correct grammatical errors.
The essay needs to have a focus. Avoid offering an overview or providing a random list of facts.

Specifically, the following elements must be addressed in one cohesive paper, not an outline not as a list of numbered answers but one flowing paper.

A. What is socialization?  What are agents of socialization?

B. Explain which agent of socialization you chose and why you chose to analyze it.

A. Give a description of your chosen institution, and what it was like. For instance if you choose family, describe what your family is like? how many people? what are they like? If you choose school, what kind of school public? private? big or small? what type of neighborhood? If you choose peers, don’t just generalize and say my friends, name them, is there one friend in particular or a group? what are they like? paint a picture for me so I have a sense of what the agent of socialization you chose is like.

B. Describe your experience with it and how it shaped you. What did this institution socialize you to believe about yourself, others, the world etc. How and in what ways did this institution help to form your identity and your sense of self? Please be specific and provide examples.

C. What were the benefits and what were the problems or drawbacks in the way you were socialized by said institution? Be sure to clearly label what you consider a benefit and what you consider a drawback.
