Because the Midterm is an assessment of the course objectives for the first four weeks, you may only use the required readings and all in Lessons (Lectures), including the linked resources there.  No additional texts are permitted. There will be point reductions if you ignore this request. It means that you should carefully comb through the readings for the first four weeks to find facts that pertain to these questions. I am opening the Midterm earlier so that you can start reading and working on it.  Please be sure to answer all three questions.

The required length is 4 double-spaced pages in 12 pt. font, not including the References. Make sure to use the Turabian Reference Style with in-text citations and include a Reference List at the end of your essay. Please write complete sentences and pay attention to your grammar and sentence structure.

Submit your finished essay as a word document in the Assignment window under the Midterm folder. Label it yourlastnameMidterm.doc or yourlastnameMidterm.docx.  Answer all three questions!

Choose a terrorist group (other than al Qaeda and ISIL) from the course readings (Weeks 1-4), and describe it. Who are its key personnel? Why is this organization important?

In an assigned chapter, Hoffman asks an intriguing question: “Why with the exception of September 11, do terrorists generally seem to lack the rich imaginations of Hollywood movie producers, thriller writers, and others?” How would you answer it?

In an assigned chapter, Hoffman claims that terrorists don’t take civilians as hostages. What examples that break these rules does he list?

Overview
For this assignment, you will evaluate and apply concepts from scientific research in educational psychology. Your task is to select a concept and provide an argument, rooted in theory, on why (or how) the concept should or should not be implemented in a specific setting. Ensure that you have a sufficient number of sources. Three or more is a good start.

Objectives
Students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts and norms in educational psychology. (SLO 1)
Evaluate and apply concepts from scientific research in educational psychology. (SLO 2)
Showcase the connections between educational psychology and other academic or professional areas. (SLO 3)

You may chose to focus on a particular theory, for example Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, Piaget’s cognitive development theory or you can focus on the perspectives of a scholar. For example, you might decide to focus on music and art in schools and use Greene’s work to frame your argument. There are many ways to frame your argument, you just need to use theories or theorists presented in this course. (Lev Vygotsky, Jean Piaget, Kurt Fischer, William James, Edward Thorndike, Richard E. Mayer, Howard Gardne, Carol Dweck, Lawrence Kohlberg, Carol Gilligan)

Was there a theme or take-home message?
Was proper background information on the topic given?
Did the main conclusions follow from the material presented?
Were competing explanations or theories considered and dealt with properly?

In the documentary, The Topdog Diaries (see YouTube), Don Cheadle explains that an audience member once asked him: What is the real reason that Booth shoots Lincoln. Cheadle does not give a clear answer, instead, leaving it up to the audience member to figure it out.
In your opinion, what is the symbolic reason that Booth shoots Lincoln at the end of this play? Please, think bigger picture than the simple violent scene that the brothers, and we as an audience, observe at the conclusion of this play. Again…BIGGER ISSUES ARE AT PLAY IN TOPDOG UNDERDOG. Think critically to score maximum points!

Which move do you think would lead to more resistance to change among students, student-athletes, and athletic department personnel: adding a team(s) or cutting a team(s)?

If you were the athletic director at UT-Arlington when discussions about adding football were ongoing, what would you say to current athletic department employees to get them on board with adding football back? What resistance would you anticipate?
