Students are to create an online presentation about their historical figure Frances Benjamin Johnston

Your presentation should include a combination of images and text and should provide others with an appreciation of the historical significance of the historical woman represented, her major cultural contributions, and her impact or influence on her field or culture broadly.

Presentations that consist of simply a portrait photograph with limited or no historical information will receive a much lower score than presentations with an image or two with substantial captions and or related historical information; students who take the presentation to the highest level will design a single slide or page that includes several images and substantial information or excerpts from historical material, including source citations.

Post your single-page/single-slide presentation on the designated discussion forum AND upload the presentation via the assignment submission tool below. (The reason you need to both submit and post the presentation is that you will receive two scores, one on the presentation itself and a second on your contributions to the related discussion forum.).

All students are expected to engage on the discussion forum by posting compliments, respectful comments and meaningful questions to their classmates’ presentations. Again, students will receive separate scores for the presentation and a score for the discussion (including post and comments).

LOGBOOKS:
Students will work with a community organization and its membership to learn first-hand its functions and leadership.
Students will keep a logbook / journal detailing the days, hours, and tasks that they engaged in each week of their chosen field experiences. Journals should also make connections between these experiences and the course readings where appropriate (this may also help you with your team project assignment). Each student should spend about one hour per week, for at least 20 hours for the semester in fieldwork. These journals will be reviewed by the instructor during the semester. The journal is documentation of the students field involvement. The journals will not receive a letter grade, but will simply be designated as “complete up to date” or “incomplete up to date.”
Students are asked to take their involvement seriously, to be present in the agency at the times they agreed upon, and to notify the agency and one of the instructors in the event they are unable to do their work due to sickness or other emergency. Missing required commitments or hours of field work may lead to no credit for the course. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from their work sites. The instructor will communicate with site directors in order to evaluate each student’s progress in their field placements.
