Due: Sunday of Week 7 by 11:59 p.m. ET

Overview:

The purpose of the 12-15-page project is for you to be able to explain a social problem to a non-sociologist using a sociological perspective. It is to provide recommendations on how to address and resolve the problem.

Instructions:

Construct a 12-15 page paper that fully explores each of the following areas:

Introduction

Within at least four pages, clearly state your topic/social problem and how it is significant to the study of society. Includes social concepts and theories.

Background

Statement of the Problem

Why it is important to study

Purpose of the study

Research Questions (at least 3; what are you trying to discover or uncover?)

Research Methods

Within at least 2 pages, you will explain how you obtained relevant journal articles for your final project.

Literature Review

Within at least 3 pages, provide information on current publications about a particular topic (no more than 3 years old). You want to be sure and include at least 6 journal articles in this section. What are the experts saying about the topic? Includes social concepts and theories.

Discussion (findings), Recommendations, and Conclusion

Within at least six pages, discuss your major findings and interpret. First, restate the overall purpose of the study. Then explain the main finding as related to the overall purpose of the study. Include social concepts and theories. (3 pages)

In terms of your recommendations, you want to share practical steps that can be taken to implement the key findings of the research study. Ask yourself, how might you address your research questions? Remember, your recommendations must be supported by the findings from the data analysis (if applicable). Further, you want to include peer-reviewed sources to validate your recommendations. (2 pages)

Be sure and include a conclusion, which is a summary of the introduction. (1 page).

Analysis of Findings Related to Your Research Question and Hypothesis

Using the knowledge you gained from your Annotated Bibliography, evaluate your own research question and hypothesis. Requirements:

1. Introduction: Introduce your research project. Identify your research question, identify your hypothesis, and identify your main variables. Explain why you are researching this topic.

2. Literature Review: Present a Literature Review in which you briefly explain the existing knowledge in your particular research area. This means you should summarize your annotated bibliography in order to let your audience know the current state of research in your particular area of study. This includes a summary of the basic findings and conclusions of your authors. You should not go through everything for every study. It is not necessary to explain the methods, for example. Summarize the main findings.

3. Analysis: Offer your own analysis of your findings using at least 1 Theory or 1 Major Concept from either of our texts (Calavita or Deflem). Your analysis should describe the basic tenets of the theoretical framework or major concept you have chosen as well as a discussion of why this theoretical framework/theory best explains your findings related to your research question.

Evaluate the key research findings from your annotated bibliography. Do they support your hypothesis? Explain why or why not. What is the answer to your own Research Question?

4. Your paper must be in APA format with all sources cited. Your paper should be around 6 pages, double-spaced, 11 point font. Page count is for the body of the assignment, not including the title page or references.

Sample Outline:

Introduction
Research Question
Hypothesis
Identify Independent variables and Dependent variables
Why are you researching this topic?
Literature Review: Key findings of research from your annotated bibliography. It should be a summary of what you learned from your annotated bibliography. You should not copy and paste your annotated bibliography. I’m looking for more of a synthesis on the research findings that relate to your research question.
Analysis: Using at least 1 theory or 1 concept from our text, explain your results.
Answer your research question- was your hypothesis correct?
Conclusion- wrap it all up

**Please see attachment for research information and please create a hypothsis and etc.

This discussion includes several steps. Please complete the following steps and write an initial post answering the questions:
Part One:
1. Watch this Bugs Bunny cartoon called “Rabbit Season.” As you watch this nearly 2 and half minute video, count the number of violent acts that you witness in the video.
**https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPtSxZchA34** (the video)
2. Make an initial post telling the class about how many acts of violence you counted during the video. After stating your witnessed number, explain what you considered a violent act in the video.
3. Keeping in mind your answers above, provide a definition for violence that should be used when watching the video.
4. The likelihood is that we will have many different numbers for the acts of violence that each of us witnessed during the video. Considering that the likelihood is that we will see different counts in the class, this means that we may have different ideas and definitions for what we consider violent acts. This also means that if we are using different definitions for key elements of a given research question, we would not have high inter-rater reliability. So, what does that inform us about the types of research we have been learning about throughout this class
Part Two:
1. Using one of the research questions that you created in the Week 2 Discussion or a new research question that you create for the purpose of this week’s discussion, how would you define the various variables that would be used in your research question? How would this definition help researchers maintain high inter-rater reliability when conducting research?

1.    In A Domestic Dilemma by Carson McCullers, why must Martin confront his wifes drinking problem?  Give three reasons.  Put harmful effects of alcoholism on the family from (Two scholarly secondary sources are attached to quote from) . In the conclusion, give the THEME of the story.  Use Template instructions in attachments. 5 paragraphs. Introudctory paragraph and 3 supporting paragraphs must have 1-2 Quotes *(from the story):  and 1-2 quotes* (from secondary sources Which are both attached along with story) Conclusion paragraph must contain theme of story

1. Loving the Good, or Just Good Loving?
What is the relationship between the conception of love espoused by Socrates in the Symposium and Augustine’s conception of love? How might Socrates and Augustine best defend their conceptions of love in response to Baier’s criticisms of the misamorist tradition in “Unsafe Love’s”? Are any of the contemporary conceptions of love we have studied compatible with the Platonic and Augustinian conceptions of love? Why or why not?

6. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
What is Nozick’s account of love? How does his account differ from Firestone’s? Of the two accounts, which is the most philosophically defensible? Why? Firestone couples her account of love with a feminist interpretation of freudian psychology to argue that men cannot love. Suppose, however, that we substitute Firestone’s account of love with Nozick’s. With Nozick’s account instead of her own, could Firestone continue to argue that men are incapable of love in a patriarchy? Why or why not?

Explain the relationship between a Sergeants Majors role in establishing and sustaining a positive and ethical climate and the role of leadership in the exercise of moral courage (think about your responsibility to establish a positive ethical climate and how this impacts moral courage).

Reflect upon the below questions before you begin:

-How does a Sergeant Major help to sustain and maintain an ethical command climate in war? The response should discuss how the Sergeant Major would assess and develop the climate and ensure that the organizational conduct, policy, and norms are aligned with stated values.
-What is the Sergeant Majors role in fostering an environment where moral courage is displayed? -Your response should discuss the relationship between physical and moral courage and how power affects the demonstration of moral courage.

Assignment Instructions: Write a 400-word substantive entry responding to the prompts above. Use at least two references from the attached documents.

Thomas is tired of hearing his grandparents talk about how things were when they were his age. He listens about how they were expected to work to contribute to the family and were happy to do so, how they were happy to have enough to eat and didn’t expect to eat out regularly, etc. Thomas explains to his grandparents that things are different now, so his feelings are different from theirs. What term would historians be most likely to use for how it feels to live in a particular time and place?

Week 2: Healthy People 2020 Impact Paper
Due Mar 14 by 11:59pm Points 125 Submitting a file upload
Purpose
The concepts of epidemiology provide the framework for the study of infectious and chronic health issues/diseases, which provides a rich source of data for the analysis of trends in disease and health. This assignment will offer the learner the opportunity to explore the population health effects of a topic which will be assigned by your course faculty.

As an example, you may be asked to identify populations at risk for oral health issues or, for instance, issues related to the frail living at home, and design a population health focused educational intervention for your target population.

In addition, you will look at what outcomes will be addressed to determine if your interventions are effective.  This paper should integrate HP2020 and CDC information into your paper.

Activity Learning Outcomes
Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

Identify appropriate outcome measures and study designs applicable to epidemiological sub-fields such as infectious disease, chronic disease, environmental exposures, reproductive health, and genetics. (CO3)
Identify important sources of epidemiological data. (CO6)
