I am running an online store that sells branded apparel, accessories and footwear.. from Gucci to Adidas and almost 60 other brands in between.
I would love to get some blog posts about controversial celebrities and fashion.. Celebrities who are loved by millions and their relation to fashion and their own style of dressing .. Lady Gaga , Sia .. etc..
You have the upper hand in deciding the topic and the celebrity in each blog post.. today we start with 1 and then we move to the next

You can keep it simple and use our textbooks for your selected artworks. 35,000 B.C.E. to 500 C.E. Paleolithic art through the Early Medieval period will be covered in the course materials, and therefore, your selected art works should be within this time frame. Please do not pick a Renaissance art work or anything contemporary. If you have questions, you can look at all chapters in our syllabus, and select works from those chapters. That is a good, guaranteed approach to finding acceptable images.

You may also mix it up and use some internet researched art images (artists must be fairly well-known so that you can research them more easily). Each week, in our discussions, we will be completing skills that can be applied to your Final Projects. For example, your first impressions and theme, research, and describing art (Elements of Art and Principles of Design).

In order to successfully complete the virtual art exhibit, you should create something (a video in your preferred format, Prezi or GoogleSlides, a virtual guided tour in ArtSteps, a Voicethread collection of images and text, a PDF, etc.) that contains two (2) art works AND a 1 page Exhibit Statement.

Step 1: Write an Exhibition Statement first.
Exhibit Statements discuss the inspiration for the exhibition. Discuss topics that give the viewer information about why you chose these works of art, and why you think they “belong” together. What is your inspiration for this exhibition?

An Exhibition Statement also introduces the works of art to the audience before they enter the exhibition. The Exhibition Statement is a great place to write about your first impressions and the theme or themes that connect to your 2 works of art.

Formatting requirements for your Exhibition Statement:

The Exhibition Statement needs to be one page in length, double-spaced. And it needs to be in 11 or 12 point font. Use paragraphs, please.
Must include any sources used to write paragraphs’ information — add in-text citations. Research them if you haven’t used them before.
A Bibliography should be added also. It is on its own slide, page, or section after the essay or exhibition itself.
The Bibliography should include a total of 3-4 academic resources.
Step 2: Create your presentation and write some awesome descriptions.

Start that slide show or ArtSteps guided tour, for example. Don’t forget to use MLA StyleLinks to an external site. format for your citations and sources listed at the end of presentation.

Please address these basic properties when you write about in paragraphs that you write. Use all terminology that is used below in the list. I am using bullet points in order to clearly format the instructions but this bullet list would not be appropriate for a professional Arts article or essay, for example.

The title of the work of art in MLA Style format. Links to an external site.
The date or general time period (for example, during prehistoric times, there are general time periods, such as Neolithic and Paleolithic
Medium (the materials that are used in order to create the artwork)
Dimensions (size) — is it small-scale? Or is this a large-scale work and about the size of a human being? Is it monumental, which means that it is many times the size of a human being?
What is the subject matter presented in the work of art?
Once you properly introduce a work of art, discuss the work of art in terms of one Element of Art and one Principle of Design.

Step 3: Complete the first impressions and connect them to a theme.

Pick a theme and do research based on this topic. Tell us what you have learned in your exhibition statement that you started earlier.

Examples of Research:

Articles – online magazines, newspapers, art magazines (Juxtapoz)
Podcasts – there’s lots of art podcasts
Our textbook – stick to the chapters that we cover in the syllabus
Online museum events (Asian Art Museum, for example)
YouTube (a lot of museums, universities, and artists have their own channels)
Online search in our library database
Don’t be afraid to Ask a Librarian – they can find sources for you while you work on other stuff!
Step 4: Design an Element of Art and a Principle of Design.

Finally, it’s very important to demonstrate that you understand how to identify at least one Element of Art in the work of art. Describe it in your own words, and then do the same for at least one Principle of Design.

Watch Beau Travail and write:

Decide on a specific element you would like to examine and discuss in your paper.
This could be a particular cinematic elements such as music, editing, cinematography or the content and themes of the film or the characterizations depicted in the film, or the structure and form of the
film. You can choose to combine two ideas. For example, you might write about the ways in which
editing expresses the theme of the ways in which sound supports characterization. You might write
about how the theme or message a filmmaker wishes to convey may create the form of the film. Ask yourself questions about a film to generate ideas for the paper.

Do focus on a particular and relatively narrow topic suitable to the length of your paper
(3 to 4 pages). Have a thesis – a one-sentence summation of what your paper is about –
clearly in mind before beginning to write. Make sure the paper has a function: argue with
a critical position, make a statement and prove it.
2. Do use specific examples from the films to illustrate your points. Be precise and accurate
in describing your example. General assertions such as the acting was awful, the
cinematography was breathtaking, or the editing was monotonous have no validity
without support by examples from the film.
3. Do try to be imaginative in relation to your material. This means your views, your intuition
and your insights are valuable.
4. Do check your paper carefully for typos, errors in grammar, etc. before turning it in.
Proofread it a day after your write it and you may spot inconsistencies in logic or any
other problems not apparent in the moment of writing. Sometimes reading the paper
aloud is a helpful way to detect errors.

Your completed paper should demonstrate the ability to identify, interpret, and consider how each component of a content analysis adds to your selected art work’s meaning, themes, or message. The components of a content analysis you will research and write about include: subject matter, personal interpretation, symbols and iconography, context, physical surroundings, and method of encounter.

Introduction: State the artist and artwork
                              Provide thesis statement

Paragraph 1: Identify the subject matter
                              Offer a personal interpretation

Paragraph 2: Identify and interpret symbols and iconography
                              Consider the physical surroundings
                              Consider the method of encounter

Paragraph 3: Use your research to consider the context
Elaborate on how the context relates to, influences,      or is seen in the resulting artwork

Conclusion: Summarize thesis statement
Your paper should be clearly organized.  It should have an introductory paragraph, three supporting paragraphs, with each paragraph including content as described in the above guidelines. and a concluding paragraph.
The content of your paper should identify, interpret, and/or consider the following areas for your selected work of art: subject matter, personal interpretation, symbols and iconography, context, physical surroundings, and method of encounter.
You should use vocabulary words and technical terms when relevant. Terms and vocabulary should be clearly defined, interpreted, and expanded upon.
Your paper should reference at least two sources, one of which will be our textbook. Your second source must be considered a scholarly source. It may be a book, journal, or from an online database hosted by our library and must be meant for adult learners. Internet sources will not be permissible.
You will turn in a Works Cited List as a third page, along with your paper.

Final Project for Dance 171
Instructor: Alysia Michelle James
UCSB Theater and Dance

Overall Objective: Create a piece of choreography to an approved song and film a performance of it to present to class during finals week. You will write a corresponding paper in which you will discuss the musical elements of the song and how they coincide with your movement.

The Challenge: Find a new piece of music outside of your comfort zone that speaks to you. All songs will have to be approved by the course instructor. The challenge is not to find your favorite song, but rather a song that is the best fit for what you are creating. The song needs to be innovative and interesting from a musical standpoint meaning a basic pop song simply wont do. You have the option to do more than one song if you want to cut your own music.

The final draft of your video must be emailed to [email protected] by 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 17th, 2021. The video can be sent as a link to a stream (such as Youtube) or emailed to me as a direct download. All videos will be showcased during our finals exam at 7:30pm on the same day.

Optional: If you want to get creative with the film, you are welcome to. Any use of lighting, props, costuming, et cetera is permitted as long as we can see your movement. This assignment is about the movement in conjunction with the music do not let any auxiliaries overshadow your movement.

Choreography (90 points)
Choreography Requirements:
Your piece must have a story, statement or trajectory.
Examples: The age-old concept of beginning, middle and end; a goal that the dancer/s is/are trying to accomplish; a process that the dancer goes through (such as a palindrome); etc.
Choreography must exhibit an understanding of downbeats and how to divide time.
It is permissible to have a dancer other than yourself dance as long as you have choreographed the piece. Multiple dancers or only a body part performing is also permissible.

Music Requirements:
The music must have multiple instruments and/or multiple time signatures/tempos.
The music must be approved by course instructor.

Assignment:

This is an OPTIONAL writing assignment. If you choose to complete it, you can earn up to 25pts. Using the guidelines below (adapted from Garbis and Adams), write a review of any film that you did not watch for this class. The movie can be foreign, old, or new, a classic, or a B moviethe film choice is up to you. Be sure to revise for grammar, correctness, and overall presentation. I recommend reading reviews by Manohla Dargis and/or A.O. Scott (both write for the NY Times).

Film Review Guidelines

Paragraph 1:  Offer your overall impression of the film while mentioning the movie’s title, director, and key actors.
Paragraph 2:  Briefly summarize the plot of the film.
Paragraphs 3 & 4:  Assess the film’s success in achieving its goal. This is where you should incorporate technical qualities such as those we’ve learned this semester: narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound, and genre. There’s usually a stand-out technique or two that are integral to the delivery of the film’s themes/topics. Write about the use of techniques in that regard; do not “name drop” techniques for the purpose of showing me what you know. It’s more important that you integrate your knowledge into your review in a logical way. Read a few film reviews to see how the pros do it.
Paragraph 5: Ending paragraph–your last opportunity to guide the reader.  Offer a clincher that tells the reader to view the film or not. It is your job to make an assessment of the film when youre a critic embrace it!
Revise revise revise! Even though this is extra credit, you must turn in a polished piece of intelligent writing in order to earn full credit.

The above has been adapted from Guidelines by M. Garbis and C. Adams, Baltimore, 2001

Please answer the questions below: (minimum of 150 words each please)
1. The relationship between humanity and the natural world has been prominently reflected in the artifacts of design for centuries.  Describe the difference between how this dynamic is portrayed within Art Nouveau versus Art Deco historical movements.

2. Postmodernism was a radical, profound, and distinct rebuttal to Modernism in the humanities, art, and design. Discuss the primary philosophical differences between the two movements. (REFERENCE THE WEEK 8 PDF FILE) (Hint 1: Consider what Modernism deemed as the means to move society toward a utopian future. On the other hand, consider the attitude Postmodernism held toward that point of view. Hint 2: There is direct parallel between Modernism v. Postmodernism at large and Denotative v.
