As a human service professional, it is likely that you will partner with advocacy organizations in your area. The discussion this week will focus on building networks and creating collaborative partnerships within a community. You will assess some of the challenges related to building networks within a community. You will also determine the role that collaborative partnerships within a community play with regard to advocacy.
Please respond to the following:
1.    Explore different ways to build networks within a community. Justify how building networks within a community is related to advocacy.
2.    Assess some of the challenges related to building networks within a community. Determine how a human service professional can overcome some of these challenges.
3.    Determine the role that collaborative partnerships within a community play with regard to advocacy.
4.    Evaluate two specific ways collaborative partnerships can be created within a community.
a.    In your answer, examine any ways you think are more effective than others.

The readings in this unit will help you explore how to build networks within a community, and why this is beneficial. The readings will also help you examine how to create collaborative partnerships, including the importance of developing multicultural partnerships within a community.

Case Study #2:

Listen to the Hidden Brain Podcast: Fee-For-Service Monster (Sept. 7, 2020; 52:11)  Here is the link to the Hidden Brain Podcast: https://www.npr.org/series/423302056/hidden-brain (Links to an external site.)

Then, answer the following questions:

1. In the very beginning of the podcast, the host talks about an episode of The Office and describes the “surf-n-turf.”  Essentially, when your company or your boss pays for your dinner, most times, employees will pick the surf-n-turf option (with a side of lobster!).  How does this relate to healthcare as discussed in the podcast?

2. In the Utah Medicaid program example, described what happened when Medicaid moved from a fee-for-service payment model to a fixed payment model?  Also, what is the name of this “fixed” payment model?

3. Vivian Lee argues that wages have been stagnant because employer’s have to pay more and more to provide healthcare to their employees.  In essence, an employees “pay raise” is going towards their healthcare contribution.  Do you agree or disagree with this argument?  Please use at least 1 outside resource to support your answer.

4. Describe the care delivery model of Chen Med and the Military Health System.
Remember to follow the Case Study Assignment Guidelines found in the syllabus.  Also, please keep this case study between 2-3 pages max.  You only need to number your answers. You don’t need to include the question.

In your discussion:

Select one method you think is the most powerful or useful for examining the relationship between biology and behavior.
Do not choose a category of investigational methods, but be sure to select one method (e.g., do not choose imaging technology but instead choose one type of imaging technology).
Evaluate the method you have selected.
Would this method be best used for basic research, initial diagnosis of a clinical condition, ongoing patient management, or a combination of these analytic practices?
What part of the nervous system (anatomical structure, function, cellular chemistry and function) would most likely be studied using this method?
What behavioral health or neurological condition could be studied by this method?
Describe how knowledge of neuroscience investigational methods would assist someone in a career that uses a degree in psychology.
Remember, a degree in psychology opens the door to many options regarding career choices. These include positions in human resources, the helping professions (e.g., medicine, counseling and behavioral health, teaching, social work, ministry, and nursing), science, marketing, law enforcement, and more.
Some examples to consider might be sharing the information youve learned to help you educate a patient/client:
Regarding their diagnosed neuropsychological disorder and the need for medication.
Why we now evaluate psychological disorders from multiple aspects (biological, psychological, social).
Why their child is ready for specific developmental milestones due to neurological maturation.

Make sure you review related chapters before answering below questions.  According to the course syllabus, answers in the homework should demonstrate that the student has read carefully and critically in the relevant field. Answers should be thoroughly supported by evidence, examples and observations.

For each question (except question 1), write a thorough and well-reasoned response. Support your response by citing the textbook or Internet research. For Question 1, you may complete the schematic model in Word using its drawing tools, or draw the model on paper, scan a copy, and insert it into the Word document.

1. Draw a schematic model of the three phases of the public policymaking process.

2. Discuss the formulation phase of policymaking.

3. Discuss the implementation phase of policymaking.

4. Discuss the three traditional core roles or functions of courts in the United States constitutional scheme of government.

5. What are the concepts of separation of powers, judicial review, and institutional competence?

Discussion: Politics and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

Regardless of political affiliation, individuals often grow concerned when considering perceived competing interests of government and their impact on topics of interest to them. The realm of healthcare is no different. Some people feel that local, state, and federal policies and legislation can be either helped or hindered by interests other than the benefit to society.

Consider for example that the number one job of a legislator is to be reelected. Cost can be measured in votes as well as dollars. Thus, it is important to consider the legislators perspective on either promoting or not promoting a certain initiative in the political landscape.

To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on efforts to repeal/replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Resources:

Consider who benefits the most when policy is developed and in the context of policy implementation.

By Day 3 of Week 3
Post an explanation for how you think the cost-benefit analysis in terms of legislators being reelected affected efforts to repeal/replace the ACA. Then, explain how analyses of the voters views may affect decisions by legislative leaders in recommending or positioning national policies (e.g., Congress’ decisions impacting Medicare or Medicaid). Remember, the number one job of a legislator is to be re-elected. Please check your discussion grading rubric to ensure your responses meet the criteria.

While the implementation plan prepares students to apply their research to the problem or issue they have identified for their capstone project change proposal, the literature review enables students to map out and move into the active planning and development stages of the project.

A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Question Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a 750-1,000 word review that includes the following sections:

Title page
Introduction section
A comparison of research questions
A comparison of sample populations
A comparison of the limitations of the study
A conclusion section, incorporating recommendations for further research

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

In this discussion, please share insights into the policy analysis process you undertook during this course. This is a personal reflection, so it is unnecessary to tie the work to credible sources, but both the initial and response posts should reflect the depth of discussion identified in the Faculty Expectations. The focus of this discussion is on the lessons learned.

In your initial post, respond to the following:

What parts of the policy analysis went well?
What parts of the policy analysis might you do differently when conducting a policy analysis in the future?
What do you believe is the takeaway of greatest value to you as a result of conducting this comprehensive policy analysis?

Read a policy brief/report from either the Brookings Institute or the Hoover Institution and address the following questions:
How does the brief/report compare with the description of policy analysis in your required readings?
Do you think the analysis comes more from a rational perspective or a political perspective?  Why?
Do you support changes being made to your selected policy?  Why or why not?
Be sure to include a link and reference to the brief/report.  In response to your peers, explain the reason you agree or disagree with changes being made to their selected policy.  Always properly cite any sources you may use in your writings.

Human Rights presentation and paper summary.
This is a group project that examines how stereotyping negatively impacts a healthcare
system. This assignment includes a 2-3-page written summary focusing on population health and disease prevention in a global community. The summary should include title and reference pages using APA format, a minimum of two peer reviewed articles are required. A brief (5 to 10 min) presentation will accompany the paper. The visual aid for the presentation will be five slides, containing examples of stereotyping found in the literature and inclusion initiatives promoting equal human rights. The paper will be submitted via Safe Assign on the 5 course Blackboard website. After submission, a rating of 0-25% similarity will be considered acceptable. Over 25% will not be considered acceptable.

Fiscal Policy is another way to affect (or influence) the economy.  Functional finance proposes that governments should make spending and taxing decisions based on their effect on the economy (not on any other basis).  Give an example of a fiscal policy and the intended goal of the policy.  Do you agree that the government(s) should make taxing and spending decisions based on what the economy needs in terms of expansion or contraction? Explain.
