In MLA format, write an essay about Dave Eggers The Circle, discussing how Mae’s identity is affected by one of the following concepts that we discussed in class: simulacra and simulation; communist ideology/Marxism; panopticism/surveillance; gamification/external motivation. Remember to include a thesis statement near the end of your introductory paragraph, which should answer an implied question, solve a problem, or resolve a paradox about how the topic affects Mae’s identity.
This is not a book report, so do not summarize the text unless you are providing context for your reader. For this project you must include a Works Cited Page, which should consist of at least one entry: The Circle.

Research the story of the 1914 Christmas Truce, and then write a 4-5 page paper discussing the celebration of Christmas on this day on the Western Front.
How did the celebrations of Christmas differ on both sides of the line?
How did the celebration of Christmas transcend cultural boundaries?
What implications does their celebration have for us today?

Everyone has their own definition of a hero. Think about your definition. Using the texts The Drummer Boy of Shiloh, The Odyssey, A Wrinkle in Time, and A Soldier Home After Losing His Leg in Afghanistan, write a multi-paragraph essay explaining the two most important traits that a hero can possess. Use all of the texts in your evidence.

Research design refers to the specific type of study that you will conduct. Research design is normally consistent with ones philosophical worldview and the methodological approach the researcher chooses. In this case, you are using a quantitative methodology. As we have discussed in this course, quantitative research designs can be experimental and non-experimental. You will be using a non-experimental design that can include descriptive statistics, correlational or causal-comparative research methods.
Research methods refer to specific procedures selected based on the chosen design. This is where you will provide detail on how you collected and analyzed your data. For quantitative methodologies, research methods can be quite detailed and require that attention be paid to recruitment, sampling, sampling frame, sample size, surveys, pilot tests, observations, data collection, data analysis, statistical procedures, data interpretation, coding, validity, reliability, generalizability, reporting, etc.
For this assignment, you will develop the research design for the Sun Coast project, utilizing this template to complete your assignment.
Your Unit III research design submission should include the below elements.
Research Methodology: Describe and justify the choice of research methodology and why it was most suitable to solve the problems. Be sure to compare and contrast this choice with the design that was not selected.
Research Design: Explain whether the research design is exploratory, causal, or descriptive. Provide the rationale for the choice.
Research Methods: Review the research questions and hypotheses you developed in Unit II, and then decide on the most appropriate research methods to test your hypotheses. They might include a combination of experimentation, descriptive statistics, correlation, and casual-comparative methods. Be sure to specify which method will be used to test which research question and hypotheses, and explain why that method was most appropriate.
Data Collection Methods: Specify how the data were most likely collected to test the hypotheses. Data collection methods include, but are not limited to, survey, observation, and records analysis. Be sure to specify which data collection method was used to collect the data needed for each research question and hypothesis. Please note that one data collection method could capture the data for several research questions and hypotheses.
Sampling Design: Briefly describe the type of sampling design that was most likely used for the data that were collected. Choices include, but are not limited to, random sample, convenience sample, etc. Explain your rationale for your sampling design selection(s).
Data Analysis Procedures: Specify which statistical procedures will be used to test each of your hypotheses from among correlation, regression, t test, and ANOVA. Explain why each procedure was the most appropriate choice.

DIRECTIONS: Answer all three (3) of the questions below, typed, double-spaced, and submitted to me in Blackboard on or before Friday, Dec. 18 at 1:30 PM. You are to submit your exam through Blackboard. I would be pleased to receive your exam sooner if it is ready. Your exam will be graded based on its accuracy, specificity, use of pertinent specific information and examples from the readings and class, and general arguments. Late submissions will be penalized. Your total maximum exam length should not exceed 14 pages typed double-spaced (it may be shorter). Number your pages! NOTE: I do NOT expect to read two exams that are the same. If I do, they will be failing exams. You must write your own exam answers, and they must be written in your own words (direct quotes must have proper cites), not copy from books or other sources, which is PLAGIARISM, and will be treated as such by me.
1. It was a dark and stormy night. You sit alone, slumped at your desk, coaxing the last drops of what was once a cappuccino from a crumpled, stained, slightly sad paper cup. The clock says 1:14 AM. Suddenly, the phone rings. H-hullo, you stammer. Please hold for Ron Klain, President-Elect Joe Bidens chief of staff, says the annoyingly perky voice on the other end (remember the name). These words are as shocking to you as a sober Johnny Depp. Id like you to write me a briefing memo that draws from your presidency class on the Barber presidential personality scheme, the groupthink concept, analysis of the presidents agenda (youll recall the cycle of decreasing influence and increasing effectiveness, and related information), and the bureaucratic jockeying between the National Security Advisor/National Security Council and the Secretary of State/State Department in shaping my presidency. Applying these ideas (dont just list stuff), write me a memo that proposes how these perspectives should shape my management of President Joe Biden and the White House. As you start to hang up, Klain adds, and be as specific as possible. I hear that Spitzer is a bear for detail.
2. Oh, and theres more. (Great, you think to yourself what, does this guy want me to pick out Bidens neckties, too??) Drawing on Chapters 5-7 in Genoveses A Presidential Nation, Genovese lays out the traits of the post-9/11 imperial presidency and remedies for this over- extended presidency. Summarize and assess Genoveses facts and arguments by addressing two questions: 1) is the state of the post-9/11 presidency really as dangerous as Genovese suggests, and 2) how effective are his remedies likely to be? Spitzer told me that the more specific you are, the better.
3. James Pfiffners analysis of presidential character in The Character Factor proposes that the relationship between good character and good presidential governance is far more complex than the simple (and arguably false) bromide that good character equals a good presidency. Based on your analysis of lying, sexual behavior, consistency, and promise-keeping from Pfiffner, discuss specific instances when seemingly bad character traits (i.e. lying, sexual infidelity, inconsistency, and the breaking of promises) either help, or at least do not harm, a presidency. In order to answer this question, you must draw specifically and meaningfully from Pfiffners book, both for concepts and examples. (Note: for the purposes of this exam, assume that we all understand the meaning of lying, inappropriate sexual behavior, consistency, and promise-keeping. (Dont waste space defining these.) Are there any lessons here that might apply to President Trump?

write a 5 page chapter summary of the chapter attached– only use that, do not use any outside sources. Make sure to answer these questions in the summary

Please discuss the Triads and Tongs from a historical perspective.
Please discuss the activities and methods of operations of the Triads and Tongs.
Please discuss the investigative strategies used against Triads and Tongs.

Paragraph one: Describe a global health concern that has impacted your community or those you care for

In this assignment you will write a research pre-proposal that lays a foundation for the final management project (FMP), or equivalent.  You need to decide a topic and structure it into a viable research approach (question, literature, data, analysis) using the skills acquired in this course.  The topic should both interest you and be relevant to modern management practice. (Management can include issues in the public or NGO sectors also). The topic does not have to be same topic you eventually write the FMP about (research naturally evolves, deepens, and changes course), but it should move you in the general direction.  Your submission should include the following components.  Word counts are suggestions only.

A title (sometimes the research question itself)

Demonstration that the topic and research question(s) are important to modern management practice.  Show that the answer to the question is genuinely not known / cannot be easily found.  Explain why the question is worth spending 9 months answering.  ~300 words.

A discussion of the main findings of the scientific literature on your topic.  To do this, you will need to locate, read, analyze and summarize about 10 reputable scientific sources.  These could be articles or books.  Newspaper, magazine, and other popular press sources (Economist, Financial Times) may be useful as background reading, to orient yourself on the main issues, but these should hardly appear at all in your list of sources.  This is because they are not scientific sources, and what you are doing here is proposing a scientific project.  Your discussion of the scientific literature on your topic should cover the main concepts and theories and/or summarize the empirical findings of prior studies.  You should try to show that there genuinely is a gap in the literature with respect to your question or topic, that is, that someone could not answer your question simply by reading the literature.  If you answer your research question in the process of reviewing the literature (which happens commonly), create a new question that has not been answered.  ~600 words.

Consider the data available to study the topic and/or answer the question and/or if you will need to gather your own data.  This could be qualitative or quantitative data, and it could be primary or secondary.  Present sketch of the process by which you will obtain the data (or even better, if the data are already available, show a sample of it).  The scientific sources you review are an excellent starting place for deciding what kinds of data are available for addressing your topic and how to obtain the data.  ~ 300 words.

Describe an approach to analyzing the data you gather.  This should include how you will organize the data and how you will analyze it.  If your approach is more quantitative, explain what your hypotheses are and how you will test them.  If you approach is more qualitative, explain the themes or axes that will guide your analysis.  If there is a role for software, explain it.  On the whole, try to demonstrate a clever method of finding an answer to your question. ~ 600 words.

A list of the references that you cite in the main text.  See the plagiarism and referencing guide on Moodle.  Make sure you consistently follow one citation and referencing format or another (different fields have different conventions).  Remember that citations happen in the text [Churchill 1944] whereas references happen at the end of the document (or sometimes at the bottom of the page): [Churchill, W. (1898) The Story of the Malakand Field Force.  London: Longmans Green].

Introduction
Research problems
Research objectives: Refer to the Introduction and Statement of Problems sections provided in the Unit II Assignment Template to make explicit statements as to the objectives of this study. For example, One objective of this research study is to determine the direction (either positive or negative) and the strength of relationships between ABC Companys various consumer promotions and sales revenue. This objective is intended to determine which promotions may be more effective and strategically important. Research objectives should be discussed for each problem identified.
Research questions and hypotheses: Provide research questions and null and alternative hypotheses that align with the research objectives and problems. For example:
RQ1: What is the relationship between Promotion 1 and sales revenue?
Ho1 (null hypothesis): There is no statistically significant correlation between Promotion 1 (independent variable) and sales revenue (dependent variable).
Ha1 (alternative hypothesis): There is a statistically significant correlation between Promotion 1 and sales revenue.
RQ2: What is the relationship between Promotion 2 and sales revenue?
Ho2: There is no statistically significant correlation between Promotion 2 and sales revenue.
Ha2: There is a statistically significant correlation between Promotion 2 and sales revenue.
RQ3: Are there differences in return on investment (ROI) between the various promotions?
Ho3: There are no statistically significant differences in ROI between Promotion 1 and Promotion 2.
Ha3: There are statistically significant differences in ROI between Promotion 1 and Promotion 2.
