“Assume that you are a criminal and like to conduct your business in an illegal and mean-spirited manner. Sometimes, you succeed in intentionally committing a crime. At other times, you end up committing a crime without planning to do so and just being unethical, regardless of whether you commit an actual crime. Identify and discuss every 1) crime against persons 2) crime against property and 3) crimes of dishonesty, along with 4) all the unethical acts you engage in while you run your business. Make sure that you identify all crimes by their proper names, the mental state involved, and what facts the prosecutor needs to prove in order to get a conviction. Assume also that a police officer suspects your illegal activities and investigates. Identify all the ways in which the officer can conduct her investigation and all the ways that you can keep whatever evidence she finds out of your trial if you are charged with any crime(s). Consider any and all defenses you may claim. Even if you did not commit a crime, identify all the ethics principles that you may have violated.”

“Hirasch is an inventor. One day, as Hirasch is driving down the road, he sees a group of friends changing a flat tire on the side of a busy roadway. As the friends celebrate their accomplishment, Hirasch ponders how difficult and inconvenient it can be to change a flat tire and decided to invent a self-inflating tire to revolutionize the automotive industry. Hirasch designs and builds his new invention so when a tire becomes flat, the consumer can push a lever and the tire auto-inflates using a motor that consistently pushes air into the tire to allow it to function until the tire itself can be repaired or replaced. Hirasch is proud of his invention and calls his friend Sionde to tell her all about it. When Sionde hears about Hiraschs self-inflating tire, she sees dollar signs. You have invented a million-dollar product, Hirasch! Sionde exclaims. Can I help you market it? Hirasch agrees to let Sionde market the self-inflating tire. 
A few days later, Sionde calls Hirasch and tells him she has come up with a name and logo for his self-inflating tire, the Never Changer and wrote a fun song about it that she put on You Tube. Sionde also tells Hirasch that investors will be calling him to help package the Never Changer and bring it to market. Hirasch is excited and waits by his phone. After a few weeks of not hearing anything, Hirasch is watching TV when he sees a commercial about a self-inflating tired called the Never Changer that, according to the ad, already has thousands of happy customers. Hirasch is shocked and immediately calls Sionde to see what happened, but there is no response. A few days later, Hirasch hears from a mutual friend that Sionde retired and moved to Hawaii. Thinking that Sionde stole his idea, Hirasch decides to rename his self-inflating tire the Flatless Tire and decides to market it himself using the song that Sionde wrote. The Flatless Tire becomes a huge success. Consider and discuss all potential legal issues.”

“Maurice and LaTonya have an eighteen-month oral contract that calls for Maurice to make four deliveries of flour a month to LaTonyas bakery. The most recent order left the quantity blank as Maurices supplier had a shortage of an ingredient critical to LaTonyas only gluten-free cupcakes. Maurice did not notify LaTonya of the shortage assuming the shortage would be remedied by the next deliverys due date. Relying on Maurices and LaTonyas past course dealings, LaTonya offered to cater Shelby and Caras 500 person wedding with her famous gluten-free cupcakes. The wedding contract was worth $4,750. The shortage continued and LaTonya was not able to provide gluten-free cupcakes so instead delivered regular cupcakes at a discounted price. Discuss all potential claims, the legal implications and possible outcomes to this disputation.”

“Tired of being cooped up in his house during the pandemic, Rami decides to renovate his backyard into a fun-filled hang out area for his family to enjoy. Rami hires Saul, a licensed landscape contractor, to put in a pool, trampoline, BBQ area, and putting green. Saul is highly respected in the industry and because of his many years of experience in landscape design, also works as a direct retailer for several landscape manufactures, which allows him to pass along discounts to his customers. After agreeing upon price and terms, Saul gets to work on the project while Rami shops for fun accessories. After a few months of renovation, Ramis backyard oasis is complete and he is thrilled at the outcome. Rami decides to throw a backyard BBQ & pool party for his family and a few vaccinated friends in his quarantine bubble to celebrate complete with balloons, music, and decorations.
The party is a hit and Ramis friends and family are so excited to enjoy the new backyard. Soon, however, things start to go awry. . . after swimming, Ramis neighbor Shale eagerly jumps on the new trampoline but quickly loses his balance, slips and hits his head on one of the metal springs, injuring himself. As Rami attends to his neighbors injury, he does not see that one of the balloons has left the bunch and floated above the new propane grill where the helium from the balloon ignites and causes an explosion sending smoke and debris over the whole block. At the same time, Ramis son George who has never played golf before mistakes the putting green for a driving range and hits a shot right into another neighbors bedroom window. The glass shatters and injures Marge who was folding laundry. As Rami surveys the damage, he realizes that one of the trampoline springs was not properly attached, causing the trampoline to be slightly uneven. Dismayed at the destruction in front of him, Rami calls Saul to complain about the defective trampoline. Saul tells Rami the trampoline came fully installed from the manufacturer and that he should contact them with any issues. Identify all pertinent legal issues and discuss.”
